Paige Corunna is working at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, where she is finishing her traineeship through Aspire.
“We are so lucky to have her, she is amazing,” HR manager Michelle said.
The St Brigid’s Girls Academy graduats journey to employment has not been without its challenges. Paige was so ill in Year 12 she didn’t think she would finish school. Girls Academy worked with school staff to develop a flexible schedule that enabled Paige to graduate.
She also discovered a range of opportunities during the careers expo at Girls Academy’s Year 12 Summit in Sydney. With the help of Girls Academy’s post-school transitions team, she sent off applications and secured a job at the department, doing different office tasks. She has even turned her creative eye to posters for events.
Paige, who wasn’t expecting to adapt so quickly, loves coming to work so much she often wishes she could stay longer. “Because I am doing something that I love it doesn’t feel like I’m working.”
She’s also very grateful for the people who’ve helped her get there. “Without the support of Girls Academy I don’t feel that I would have had the same opportunities available to me,” she said. “I am thankful for Bella, Colleen and Ellie, who have and are supporting me throughout my journey.”
